Members gather for lobbying and support activities
Dozens of PSAC members were seen this week handing out leaflets in various parts of Ottawa and Gatineau.
It started on Wednesday, August 16, when PSAC members gathered at Tunney’s Pasture to support the struggle of our members working as Commissionaires at Health Canada buildings. Commissionaires are trying to reach a first agreement and have to cope with a ridiculous wage offer from the employer. They handed out leaflets explaining the situation to public service employees entering Health Canada offices at Tunney’s Pasture.
During the evening Wednesday, “Phantom” members were in front of the National Arts Centre, to mark the end of the collective agreement of our members working as ushers and guides at the Centre. Some members were dressed as Phantoms of the Opera and were giving leaflets inviting the NAC management to start the negotiations.
Finally, on Thursday morning, members on the Quebec side of the river were present on Promenade du Portage and Terrasses de la Chaudiere. The group handed out hundreds of invitation to staff entering work for the anti-Bush demonstrations of Sunday and Monday in Ottawa and Montebello. “Public Services are Cool” fans were also given.
